The sewing machine has been going today. My honey will be happy as he bought it for me and thought it was going to collect dust in our wardrobe - forever. But no! I am proud to say that today, I made 4 scrunchies! Yes, 4! Lil Miss Macy is happy because they are all for her. They actually weren't that hard to make and only took about 8 minutes each so that worked really well for me and my attention span (I bore easily) and there wasn't much mess to clean up, yay!
Now, many of you will remember these wonderful items of hair adornment from the 80's, ah, the 80's. They were good days. Tube skirts, fingerless lace gloves, side pony tails, fluro socks, jelly shoes, legwarmers, acid-wash skinny jeans, ankle boots, shoulder pads (thank you Dallas) puffy sleeves and stirrup pants......the memories. Just google for a refresher or look in your photo album lol.
The 80's brought us terrific tv shows and movies...Different Strokes, Family Ties, 21 Jump Street, Miami Vice (the first record I bought was the Miami Vice soundtrack, oh yeah) and The Cosby Show and movies like ET, 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future and Beverly Hills Cop.
And don't forget the "ace" 80's music......Duran Duran, Wham! (still my favourite) Culture Club, Madonna, Michael Jackson, hip hop, glam metal and breakdancing- Beat Street!
Those were the good old days when you were rich if you had an Atari system and even richer if you had Pacman for it! Days playing outside on the street til after dark, riding our bikes with no helmets, tramps with no nets, rollerskates, yo-yos, Rubiks cubes, elastics, boom boxes, slap bracelets and BIG hair. My kids don't know what they missed!!! But I'm only too happy to share some of the 80's nostalgia with them...they've both been subjected to lots of "olden day" movies, have had to listen to my flash back songs when I get to play my music and if we look at the fashion today, all the mums know.....we wore that back when we were their age!!!!! My Macy has the skinnies, the scrunchies, the side pony tail, ankle boots and has fluro nail polish. One trip into the clothing stores shows they are bringing back the best of a fantastic time in my life......now if only I'd kept those leg warmers....hmmmm maybe not!
Now off you go, go and subject your youngsters to some 80's movies or music!
